The 2007 Service-Learning Institute was in San Diego and took “Pathways to Sustainable Service-Learning Growth” as its title. The “Pathways” offered were:
Strengthening networking and collaboration among the twelve CalServe Service-Learning Region
- Sharing of resources, ideas, and programs
- Marketing of services
- Fundraising for service-learning
Building connections with strong, existing initiatives.
- Afterschool programs
- Environmental education
- Civic Mission of Education
- Cesar E. Chavez Days of Service
Encouraging district policies and professional development that provide effective support for classroom teachers.
- Board policies and district practices that are working
- Teacher friendly ideas for implementing service-learning
- Applying service-learning to achieve California Standards
Emphasizing the importance and power of research and evaluation.
- Making use of emerging research to support high quality service-learning
- Applying user-friendly evaluation tools for continuous program improvement
- Invigorating service-learning with youth development principles
In this way, the Institute focused on the work of broadening the range of Service-Learning and creating a sustainable support system for Service-Learning in schools.
