Start A Club

Youth Service California provides funding opportunity for California schools districts and county offices of education to apply for state grant funds and related support to establish Cesar E. Chavez Afterschool Service Clubs in middle schools that receive Title I funding. Successful proposals will receive:
  • Grant funds of up to $31,450 per Service Club. School districts or county offices of education must apply to establish Service Clubs at four middle schools. Fewer than four Service Clubs may be allowed for districts with fewer than 2500 students, and up to eight Service Clubs for districts with more than 50,000 students.
  • Assignment and support of trained AmeriCorps*VISTA member(s), depending on availability.
  • Professional development and training for club staff and AmeriCorps*VISTA members.
  • Full curriculum for use in the clubs, and a variety of related instructional materials.
  • Coordination of the Service Club sites into an affiliated statewide network.
  • Troubleshooting and technical assistance for clubs and grantee LEAs.
