POSITION SUMMARYYouth Service California (YSCal) Cesar E. Chavez Service Club AmeriCorps*VISTA members will collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and local community based organizations to develop and launch dynamic Afterschool Service Clubs honoring the life and legacy of Cesar E. Chavez. This exciting youth leadership program helps middle school students become successfully engaged in their community. YSCal’s Cesar E. Chavez Initiative is a collaborative effort with the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation and CaliforniaVolunteers. These Service Clubs are being established in 80 middle schools across California. Forty AmeriCorps*VISTA members will each work with two local Clubs. The VISTA members will help train Club staff and volunteers on curriculum materials developed specifically for this initiative. VISTA members will work with Club staff to plan service projects and recruit community volunteers as needed. They will promote the Clubs and develop relationships in the community so that Club members will have appropriate places and resources to perform their service activities. VISTA members will be supported by the AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader and Program Manager, Cesar E. Chavez Service Clubs. VISTA members will receive extensive, on-going training and support in volunteer management, youth development, youth service, service-learning and Cesar E. Chavez curriculum.
